Disney's Frozen: The Live Broadway Musical Performance at Roger Rocka's Venue
The Good Company Players are set to enchant audiences with their latest production, Disney's Frozen: the Broadway Musical, at Roger Rocka's Dinner Theater. This captivating adaptation of the 2013 animated film, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's story "The Snow Queen", promises a night filled with enchantment and wonder.
Emily Pessano and Robert Sanchez serve as directors for the production, guiding the talented cast through the icy landscapes of Arendelle. David Pierce's scenic designs create a neutral canvas for a world of color and texture, setting the stage for the story's dramatic twists and turns.
The production features a unique double-casting arrangement. The roles of Elsa, Anna, Olaf, and King Agnarr are each played by two actors who alternate performances. Kaitlyn Wheeler and Kaitlin Dean bring Elsa to life, while Haleigh Cook and Jessica Martin take on the role of Anna. The actors for Olaf and King swap roles between shows, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the production. For instance, Michael Diaz plays Olaf in one performance and King Agnarr in another, while Lex Martin does the reverse.
Ginger Kay Lewis-Reed and her costume shop recreated and adapted some of the film's designs, dressing the cast in Nordic glory. The vocal training of the cast was managed by Laurie Bridges, transforming them into a Scandinavian choir. Jessica Sarkesian choreographed the show, with Kailyn Sanders as assistant and Pessano contributing additional dances.
The story follows Elsa, a princess with magical powers to create snow, and her sister Anna, as they navigate a series of trials and tribulations. When an accident causes harm to Anna, leading to the palace being closed and the sisters being separated, Elsa flees to the North Mountain, leaving the kingdom trapped in perpetual winter. Anna goes after her sister, aided by Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven.
Anna meets and falls for Prince Hans, but Elsa forbids their marriage, revealing Elsa's snow-causing powers and declaring herself a monster. When the royal couple die, the princesses live lonely years until Elsa's coronation as Queen.
The Junior Company pre-show features classic pop songs, as well as tunes from Broadway shows like Newsies and Godspell.
