Disney resolves a lawsuit over terminated employment with actress Gina Carano from Star Wars

Gina Carano, the former star of The Mandalorian, has reached a settlement in her wrongful termination lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm. The settlement was announced in August 2025, with no financial details disclosed.

Carano was fired from the popular Star Wars spinoff show in February 2021 following a controversial social media post. The post compared the hatred conservatives in the U.S. were experiencing to that experienced by the Jews during the Holocaust.

In her lawsuit, Carano alleged that she was wrongfully terminated and discriminated against for her conservative views. She maintained that her posts, which included comparisons of American political divisions to Nazi Germany and controversial remarks about transgender people and COVID mask-wearing, were the reason for her firing.

Disney initially defended the decision, stating that Carano's posts were "abhorrent and unacceptable." However, in a surprising turn of events, Disney later acknowledged that Carano was respected by her colleagues during her time on The Mandalorian. They even expressed a willingness to collaborate with her again in the future.

The lawsuit was backed by Elon Musk as part of an initiative on his social media platform. Musk has been a vocal supporter of Carano, often expressing his disapproval of her firing.

Pedro Pascal, Carano's co-star, advised her to "just put #TransRights in your feed" to appease fans. However, Carano remained vocal about her conservative views on social media, opposing Black Lives Matter, COVID lockdowns, and transgender dogma.

In a statement after settling the lawsuit, Carano expressed hope for "some healing to the force" and a desire to make Disney proud. She thanked Elon Musk and her supporters for standing by her throughout the legal battle.

Disney, for their part, expressed satisfaction with the settlement and looked forward to potential future collaborations with Carano. The settlement marks an end to a contentious dispute between the parties, with both sides expressing mutual respect and a desire to move forward.
