Disney maintains tradition of saluting American military through patriotic festivities

In a heartfelt tribute to America's military, Disneyland and Disney World are set to honour veterans and service members during their Fourth of July celebrations. This year, Disneyland marks 70 years of daily flag retreat ceremonies, a tradition that started on its opening day in 1955, while Disney World's Magic Kingdom joined the tradition on its opening day in 1971.

Disneyland will host the 1st Marine Division Band for the July 4 Flag Retreat Ceremony, a special event commemorating 70 years of honoring America's men and women in uniform. The Magic Kingdom will also join the celebrations with its own concert in the sky for the Fourth of July. In addition, Disneyland will host additional performances leading up to "Disney's Celebrate America! - A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky."

The festivities extend beyond the Fourth of July, with Disney World announcing an extension of an art exhibit featuring portraits of veterans painted by former President George W. Bush. This year, Disney World also celebrated the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary with surprise trips and exhibits honoring veterans.

Disney's affinity for the U.S. military is deeply rooted in its founding, as both Disney brothers, Walt and Roy, served in World War I. This commitment to supporting American service members is reflected in Disney's recent activities, such as organizing a surprise Disneyland trip for 100 U.S. Navy sailors and Marines in May.

In addition to its veterans' tributes, Disney has highlighted its impact on the U.S. economy. As Disneyland celebrates its 70th anniversary, Disney revealed that its parks across the U.S. generate nearly $67 billion annually and support over 400,000 direct and indirect jobs. This economic influence extends beyond park gates, driving growth and defining the themed entertainment industry in America.

The company's YouTube channel recently celebrated its commitment to supporting American service members with a video caption that read, "Since its founding, Disney has been dedicated to the ideals and dreams that created America. It's where heroes work and veterans are celebrated."

These efforts demonstrate how Disney both honors veterans through ceremonial and celebratory traditions and contributes significantly to the national economy through its large-scale entertainment operations.
