Dismisses baseless accusation in DQ case, says Chan

Lapu-Lapu City's newly elected Mayor Junard "Ahong" Chan isn't backing down from the baseless disqualification case filed by Paz Radaza. He flat-out questioned the legitimacy of the accusations, claiming no evidence or supporting documents have been provided[1].

In a candid phone chat with our website Cebu, Chan shunned the complaints, recounting his office receiving an unofficial copy of the complaint two days post-election, on May 14. Despite this, he admitted he couldn't produce a complete copy of the complaint during the interview[1].

Rumors were rife with vote-buying allegations during the election period. Chan dismissed these accusations, bewildered by Radaza's sudden move, believing she had already conceded and acknowledged the results[1].

Indeed, the victory margin spoke volumes, as the entire Team Kaabag slate trounced the competition, clinching a 15-0 landslide victory. Cindi King-Chan claimed 63.47% of the vote, or 142,058 votes, while Chan bagged 72.27% for his congressional bid, earning 160,447 votes[1].

Chan assured the case wouldn't slow down the Team Kaabag slate, as they are well-prepared for challenges following each triumph.

"We've seen the votes, the people have spoken. The result from 2022 is still the same in 2025—the people have spoken,” he stated, blending Cebuano and English[1].

"Let's unite as one Oponganon for a better, brighter Lapu-Lapu City. The election is over; it's time to move on," he added[1].

Chan and his slate expect to receive the official final copy from the Commission on Elections and plan to respond formally once they do[1].

Multiple attempts have been made to contact Radaza for comment and details regarding the complaint, via calls and messages. However, as of press time, there has been no response from her camp or an official statement released[1]. / DPC
