Quick Read: A CRPF soldier, Munir Ahmed, claims senior officers were aware of his union with a Pakistani woman. Despite being dismissed over national security concerns, Ahmed argues he'd received the necessary approvals. He plans to challenge his dismissal in court.

Trooper Munir Ahmed, unexpectedly let go from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for marrying a Pakistani woman, states that he sought and received explicit authorization from CRPF headquarters for his nuptials. This revelation was made on a recent Saturday.

"I found out about my termination via media outlets. Soon after, came a notification from the CRPF confirming the decision, leaving both myself and my family in disbelief, considering we had received permission for our inter-country marriage," expressed Munir Ahmed.

Ahmed's termination was based on allegations of concealing his marriage and knowingly hosting his spouse after her visa expired, posing a threat to national security.

However, Ahmed intends to dispute this decision in court. Alluding to the process he was required to follow prior to marriage, he explained, "I initiated contact on December 31, 2022, expressing my wish to wed the Pakistani national and was asked to provide documents like passport copies, marriage certificates, and affidavits."

"Post submitting my affidavit and those of my parents, sarpanch, and district development council member, I eventually received clearance from the headquarters on April 30, 2024," he continued.

Ahmed insisted he was informed that a No Objection Certificate (NOC) was unnecessary as he had complied with government regulations regarding his intercontinental marriage. Furthermore, he claimed there is no such provision to secure an NOC under the rules.

"Our marriage took place online on May 24, 2024, through a video call, and we submitted our marriage pictures, 'Nikkah' papers, and marriage certificate to the 72 Battalion," he detailed.

"As soon as she visited India for the first time on February 28 for a 15-day visa, we immediately filed for a long-term residency permit in March and finalized the necessary formalities, which included an interview," he added.

The couple's predicament came to light when media highlighted Minal Khan's imminent expulsion, despite being tied to a CRPF soldier, an Indian citizen. An intervention by the J&K High Court allowed Minal Khan to stay in their Jammu dwelling, averting her deportation.

Ahmed asserts that his swift application for permanent residency post-marriage was sufficient for the court to grant relief. The soldier also confirmed informing senior officers of his wedding to a Pakistani woman once he returned to active duty after leave.

"I was instantly relieved and directed to join my duties at Bhopal upon resuming work. I underwent an interview with the commanding officer and his deputy upon arrival, and completed the documentation process; noting my marriage to a Pakistani woman explicitly in my battalion data record book," he explained.
