Firing Across the LoC and Pahalgam Attack: Call for Justice

In a tweet, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar called for those responsible for the Pahalgam terrorist attack to face justice, following a conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. This deadly attack in Pahalgam, which claimed over two dozen lives, primarily tourists, sparked a series of ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Line of Control.

Over the past few nights, the Line of Control has seen repeated instances of unprovoked firing from the Pakistani Army. In response, the Indian Army has taken prompt and appropriate action, retaliating against the Pakistani forces in the Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor sectors.

In light of the Pahalgam tragedy, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have intensified their anti-terror operations in the Kashmir Valley. The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) convened after the attack and pointed towards cross-border connections, noting that the attack followed the successful elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

The identified perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack, believed to include former members of Pakistan's paramilitary forces and militant groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba, are currently evading capture. Indian authorities suspect that Pakistan-based operatives and safe houses in Muzaffarabad and Karachi played a role in planning and backing the attack.

As the investigation continues, the National Investigation Agency has been actively involved, with a bounty of Rs 60 lakh being announced for any information leading to arrests or elimination of the attackers. However, specific updates on arrests or prosecutions related to the attack, beyond the ongoing efforts to apprehend a key suspect named Hashim Musa, have yet to emerge.
