Discussion with Nika D from the Virus Syndicate
In the realm of bass music, the duo of Nika D and JSD, collectively known as Virus Syndicate, have made their mark on some of the most respected imprints. Now, they've taken a bold step forward, launching their own label – Bad Medic Records.
Their first release, a collaboration featuring Dope D.O.D, Harry Shotta, Franky Nuts, OneDa, and Virus Syndicate themselves, is the energetic track 'SPLAT!'. This debut release on Bad Medic Records promises to be a testament to the label's commitment to blurring boundaries in the Rap & Bass fraternity.
Bad Medic Records is the first label of its kind in the space Virus Syndicate operates in, emphasising the importance of having an outlet for artists in the Rap & Bass scene. The label aims to focus on both the producer and the MC, providing a platform for creative expression and collaboration.
Nika D, the brainchild behind Bad Medic Records, reflects on his musical journey, which has been a roller coaster of collaborations and releases on major labels. He expresses a desire to celebrate the culture that has been a part of Virus Syndicate for many years through the label.
One of the exciting collaborations on the horizon is a one-of-a-kind release with MC Altaf and Karan Kanchan from the Gully Gang crew in India. Nika D, who is half-Indian, mentions his personal connection to India and anticipates a great twelve months for both Virus Syndicate and Bad Medic Records.
Virus Syndicate, pioneers in the 'Rap & Bass' genre for over a decade, have built a loyal #SICKGANG fanbase that has now reached global scales. They've inspired a generation of artists in the UK and beyond, and their music combines elements of Grime, Dubstep, Hip-Hop, Drum & Bass, Trap, and various other styles.
In addition to their upcoming collaborations, Virus Syndicate has an EP released on Disciple that is different from their usual material and is expected to surprise listeners. They also have tours planned in the USA, Australia, New Zealand, and Asia, and may also visit India.
Nika D hopes that Bad Medic Records will inspire the community to come together and grow together. With their first release under the label, it's clear that they are off to a strong start in achieving this goal.
