Fuss in BSW Over MP Hornauf's controversial Voting Behavior
Advising penalties for MP Hornauf, as stated by BSW - Discussion to Encompass Penalties for Member Hornauf at BSW Meeting
Hey, let's chat about what's cooking in Brandenburg!
The BSW coalition faction is in a pickle, as they're set to discuss the way forward with their controversial MP, Sven Hornauf, over his off-the-reservation voting habits. The dude's been causing a stir with his frequent departures from the coalition's official line-up.
The SPD party has chipped in, asking the BSW alliance led by Sahra Wagenknecht to weigh up possible repercussions for Hornauf. Last Wednesday, a draft budget from the Ministry of the Interior failed to secure a majority due to Hornauf's abstention in the Interior Committee vote.
So, what's on the line for Hornauf?
A spokesperson for the BSW state parliament faction is mum on the specifics, merely saying a discussion is in the pipeline, with no concrete date specified yet. The SPD's parliamentary business manager, Ludwig Scheetz, speaking to dpa in the morning, was blunt: "The BSW is on notice to sort this out." It's a pain when the MP keeps veering off-course, he added.
Interestingly, the lack of a majority in the Interior Committee's vote didn't make a big splash in the budget procedure itself, according to Scheetz. The parliament is scheduled to vote on the state budget for 2025 and 2026 in June. The government partners SPD and BSW have a slender majority of just two votes in the state parliament.
Frustration after AfD motion approval
Hornauf himself had spoken in December 2024 about the possibility of an expulsion motion being filed against him. He had threatened to withhold his vote for Dietmar Woidke (SPD) as Minister President due to the criticism of the deployment of the Arrow 3 missile defense system at the Holzdorf airbase. In February, Hornauf surprised everyone by voting for a motion put forward by the AfD, despite the fact that opposition motions are usually a no-go. At that time, it was stated that the state parliament faction would not resume the expulsion proceedings against Hornauf right away.
