Controversial UPSC Qualifier Poorva Chaudhary, Accused of OBC Quota Misuse, Disables Instagram Account

Discussion stirs on social media concerning accusations of alleged misuse of OBC quota by UPSC rank holder Poorva Chaudhary

The Twitterverse is ablaze with criticism over Poorva Choudhary, who recently secured a spot in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam. The commotion stems from accusations that she misused the OBC-NCL (Other Backward Classes - Non-Creamy Layer) quota, given her affluent lifestyle.

Choudhary managed to snag the 533 rank in this year'sUPSC exam, one of India's most competitive exams with a success rate of just around 0.2%. Her claim to fame quickly turned sour as online users dug up her luxurious lifestyle, posting expensive bags, international trips, and pictures of her seemingly lavish household.

Critics pointed to Chaudhary's father, who, according to reports, is a member of Rajasthan Administrative Services. They accused Chaudhary of exploiting the reservation quota, claiming she had no right to it due to her family's privileged status.

"Poorva Choudhary, an UPSC qualifier, splashing cash on a four-lakh bag and rolling in luxury despite her father being an ADM. Yet she used the OBC-NCL certificate for the exam. The saga of corruption in UPSC continues," one user claimed.

Another weighed in, "Poorva Chaudhary reaping benefits from OBC reservation, while her Instagram account showcases her lavish lifestyle. Is the reservation system intended for socially backward or a stepping stone for the privileged?"

Following the backlash, Chaudhary disabled her Instagram account, leaving users to speculate on her side of the story.

Father's Response

After the social media storm silenced Poorva, her father, Omprakash Saharan, stepped up to defend her honor. Saharan, serving as Additional District Collector in Kotputli, Rajasthan, firmly denied the allegations, explaining that the rules governing the OBC-NCL quota may not have applied to Chaudhary in this case.

In an interview with India Today, Saharan clarified that since he was appointed to his Group A position after the age of 40, his daughter would still be eligible for the OBC-NCL quota under the central guidelines. He also added that similar rules apply to appointments or promotions in Class I government jobs, meaning that children of officers who are appointed or promoted to these positions would not be eligible for OBC quota benefits.
