Discussion ongoing about potential transfer of Xavi Simons to Manchester United, following apparent agreement for Bryan Mbeumo acquisition: source claims

Manchester City has reportedly joined the chase for RB Leipzig attacker Xavi Simons, adding another high-profile suitor to the list that already includes Manchester United, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich.

According to recent reports, City is contemplating a move for the 22-year-old Dutch talent, who could provide a formidable addition to Pep Guardiola's squad.

Simons, a direct no.10, is comfortable going forward and drifting out wide, making him a versatile option in the attacking midfield. His ability to operate in various areas on the pitch could potentially complement City's current roster, which includes the likes of Bernardo Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, and Phil Foden.

However, Simons' valuation of €70m, as per Transfermarkt, might pose a challenge for City, who are known for their strategic and calculated spending.

Meanwhile, Manchester United appears to be focusing their funds elsewhere. The Red Devils have already agreed to a transfer with Wolverhampton Wanderers for Matheus Cunha, a striker, and negotiations with Brentford over Bryan Mbeumo, another attacking midfielder, have become protracted.

In the view of this article's website, a move for Simons wouldn't make a great deal of sense for Manchester United, given their reported focus on a traditional no.9 or an athletic, battling midfielder to complement Bruno Fernandes.

United's current squad boasts players like Mason Mount and Amad, who can operate in similar areas as Simons, adding to the speculation that United might be looking elsewhere for reinforcements.

Interestingly, Barcelona sporting director Deco has reportedly met with Simons' agents, but a deal for the Dutchman to join the Catalan giants is considered "extremely complicated" by a Spanish outlet.

Simons has had two strong Bundesliga seasons with Leipzig, earning him a ranking of no.8 in a list of the best attacking midfielders in the world, according to a specific website. He is reportedly open to a new challenge away from Leipzig this summer, making him an attractive prospect for several top European clubs.

The three clubs - Manchester City, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich - have all met with Simons' representatives, indicating a keen interest in securing his services. The race for Simons is heating up, and it remains to be seen where the talented midfielder will end up.
