"Steinznapf" Chatter in Beer Garden: Witness Testifies About Government Overthrow Plot Discussion

Discussion of Government Overthrow Shared Over Brews in Beer Garden - Discussion in a Biergarten: Plotting Alleged Government Overthrow

In the ongoing trial of the self-proclaimed "Reich" members, including Heinrich XIII. Prince Reuss, a witness recounts a disturbing conversation about potentially violent government overthrow at a Bavarian beer garden. The former lieutenant general of the Bundeswehr detailed a meeting with defendant Maximilian Eder in 2021, where discussions of politician assassinations, specifically Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn, and a plan to reorganize the Ministry of Defense under a new government, were reported.

The witness had shared concerns about Eder's escalating views and the potential danger of these plans, prompting him to notify the military security service the day following the encounter. The two men, who had a history dating back to 1990, had attended a general staff course together in the Bundeswehr and maintained intermittent contact until their contrasting views on the coronavirus pandemic furthered their divide.

The witness characterized Eder as a passionate individual with impractical solutions, while recognizing his desire to do good for the nation.

Prosecution Alleges Eder's Involvement in Coup Plans

Bavarian ex-soldier Maximilian Eder is one of several individuals implicated in the association, as stated by the federal prosecutor. Eder is accused of collaborating with other group members to eliminate the existing German state order by forceful means. He was alleged to have reached out to active members of the Bundeswehr in support of the association's goals, and drafted a deposition of the federal government in January 2022.

The Federal Prosecutor's Office indicts the nine defendants in Frankfurt on charges of being members of or supporting a terrorist organization. The goal, as stated in the indictment, was to violently dismantle the prevailing state system and replace it with their own, pre-determined state structure.

A total of 26 suspects are facing charges in two parallel trials in Munich and Stuttgart. All accused must be presumed innocent until proven guilty. The trial in Frankfurt is set to continue on May 13.
