In the gripping drama "13 Minutes" (2016), directed by Stephan Wagner, the lives of two determined individuals, Fritz Bauer and Joachim Hell, unfold against the backdrop of post-war Germany.

Fritz Bauer, portrayed by Ulrich Mühe, is a tenacious general prosecutor, determined to strengthen the young democracy by bringing those responsible for Nazi crimes to justice. His goal was to initiate a case against Chancellor Adenauer's closest political ally, Hans Globke, for his involvement in the deportations of Jews during the war.

Joachim Hell, played by David Kross, is a young prosecutor who shares Bauer's passion for justice. Together, they challenge the status quo, fighting against the cover-up of Nazi crimes in the Federal Republic of the 1950s. Bauer's stance and fiery temper made him vulnerable to resistance from politics, intelligence services, and the justice system.

The movie is based on a true story, with Bauer secretly negotiating with the Israeli secret service to initiate Adolf Eichmann's arrest by the Mossad. After Eichmann's arrest, Bauer used material from the Eichmann interrogations to bring a case against Hans Globke.

The movie, rated FSK 12, has a runtime of 90 minutes and is available until August 27, 2025, at 20:15 Uhr. The characters are portrayed by a talented cast, with Dieter Schaad portraying Konrad Adenauer, Bernhard Schütz as Hans Maria Globke, and Uwe Bohm as Efraim Ilani.

While the Chancellor threatened by Bauer and Hell is not explicitly named in the movie, historically, Konrad Adenauer was the Chancellor during most of the 1950s, and Fritz Bauer’s efforts were directed during that era, before Kurt Georg Kiesinger's chancellorship starting in 1966.

"13 Minutes" is a compelling drama that sheds light on a crucial period in German history, reminding us of the importance of justice and the relentless pursuit of truth.
