Srinagar Rallies Against Terrifying Terror Attack, Vows Solidarity and Peace
A rousing meeting in Srinagar on Thursday lambasted the brutal terror attack in Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam as an assault on the very essence of Kashmir and India. The gathering in the lakeside Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) discussed the horrific incident that left 26 tourists, a local horse handler, and many injured, each voicing their shock and distress.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, presiding the meeting, underscored the resolutions passed by the attendees who strongly condemned the vicious attack on innocent civilians. They termed the act heinous and inhumane, concluding that such cowardly acts have no place in society. The participants stood united in their commitment to support all efforts in bringing the culprits to justice.
Amidst the mounting tension, political leaders and parties expressed their desire for peace and stability in Kashmir, urging for mutual respect, upholding constitutional values, and collaborative efforts for the region's prosperity. Notably, the meeting generated solidarity across the Valley as people took to the streets in peace protests, showcasing their unwavering resolve to advance unity, peace, and the rule of law.
However, genuine concerns were raised over the safety of Kashmiri students and traders who have faced harassment and violent attacks in various parts of the country following the dreadful Pahalgam carnage. To this end, the assembly made an earnest appeal to the government of all states and Union territories to ensure their protection at all costs.
At the heart of the tragedy stood a brave horseman, Shaheed Syed Adil Hussain Shah, who tragically lost his life trying to save tourists from the terrorists. His bravery and selflessness became an inspiring symbol of Kashmiriyat and Kashmiri hospitality. The residents of the valley expressed their heartfelt sympathies to the families of the victims, vowing to stand together in their profound grief.
In light of the escalating violence, the Council of Ministers had deemed it necessary to summon a special session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. The Cabinet, in its emergency meeting held yesterday, recommended that the special session take place at 10:30 AM on April 28 in Jammu.
The meeting was attended by various political leaders such as Farooq Abdullah, Surinder Choudhary, numerous ministers, Members of Parliament, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Tariq Hameed Karra, Nizamuddin Bhat, Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami, Sajad Gani Lone, Mehboob Beigh, and Basharat Bukhari, along with Syed Altaf Bukhari, the J&K Apni Party president, and Altaf Thakur, the BJP spokesperson, among others.
As the echoes of unity and peace resonated in Srinagar, theapolis reflected deep concern over the long-term impact on tourism and associated livelihoods in the aftermath of the calamitous attack. Still, political parties in Jammu and Kashmir vowed to remain steadfast in their pursuit of peace and economic revival amid fears that such incidents may undermine efforts to restore normalcy.
