Discussion: Chat with Chill – Delving into the CSC002 Redesigned Project on CypherSound Cartel

In the world of drum and bass, Chill's name is making waves. With a deep-rooted connection to the genre, Chill has been drawn to the heart and vision of the CypherSound Cartel for a long time. This connection is evident in his contribution to the CSC002 Remixed EP, a 5-track drum & bass release that officially hit the digital shelves on August 10, 2025[1][2].

Chill's remix of "Tincture" stands out in this collection, offering a fresh interpretation of the original track. For Chill, the choice of "Tincture" was inspired by its techy, weird quality, and he took the drum stems and rearranged them to create a dancefloor DnB track with funk and aggressive reeces, while keeping the essence of the original intact.

The CSC002 Remixed EP is a testament to the collective's authenticity and conviction, values that resonate deeply with Chill. His involvement in this project, as discussed in an interview on Drum and Bass UK in August 2025, highlights his creative input and integration within the collective[3].

Chill's musical journey began at the Art Collage in Belfast, where he witnessed LTJ Bukem perform, an experience that ignited his passion for drum and bass. His influences span a wide range of artists, including Ed Rush & Optical, Dillinja, Ram Trilogy, Hive, Gridlok, Noisia, Bad Company, Photek, J Majik, Goldie, Roni Size & Reprazent, LTJ Bukem, Dom & Roland, Cause for Concern, Konflict, DLR, Break, Need for Mirrors, Homemade Weapons, Submotive, Minor Forms, HLZ, Workforce, Scar, Quartz, and many more.

Chill's music aims to make people dance and release pure honest human emotion. His approach to writing music is not formulaic; instead, he focuses on vibes. This approach, combined with his distinctive sound shaped by years of DJing and production, results in a unique blend of funk and soul, even when distorted.

In the current scene, Chill believes that the real heart and soul of dance music is still there, but it requires more effort to find it. Despite the volume of people making music now being greater than in the past, Chill's deep roots in the Irish scene set him apart. His DJ sets and any tunes he makes are always with the dancefloor in mind.

The CSC002 Remixed EP by CypherSound Cartel is now available for purchase on Bandcamp, and Chill's remix of "Tincture" is a must-listen for any drum and bass enthusiast. For Chill, this remix is just the beginning, and we can't wait to see what he creates next.
