Discovering Jimmy Hoffa's lakehouse hideout revealed
In Lake Orion, Michigan, a significant renovation project is underway at the former lake house of Jimmy Hoffa, the notorious Teamsters boss who disappeared in 1975. The new owners, Susan and John Hagen, have taken on the challenge of restoring the property, which has been neglected for years.
The main house, a modest-looking two-story frame building, remains much as it was during the summer of 1975. The Hagens aim to restore the exterior to its original 1970s appearance, with the 8-inch white siding and window placements, while updating the interior to modern 2025 standards.
One of the most intriguing aspects of the renovation is the discovery of personal touches left by the Hoffa family. For instance, a faint outline of "JO" is written in the cement stairs leading up from the lake, a reminder of Hoffa's wife, Josephine. Additionally, the stone seawall that Jimmy Hoffa built by hand with his son James still stands.
John Hagen, a builder/carpenter with 40 years of experience, is leading the renovation efforts. He and his wife have shared photos of their work on the Facebook page "Hoffa House Renovations," which includes repainting Hoffa's handmade totem pole, taking down walls, uncovering patios, and picnic tables.
The Hoffa family's love for the house is evident, and the Hagen family is committed to carrying on that love in the spirit of the illustrious former owner. They have even had the opportunity to meet Hoffa's son and one of his grandsons during their visit to the house.
The Hagens have also learned about the human side of the Hoffa story, gaining a unique insight into Jimmy Hoffa as a family man. Jimmy Hoffa's big wood console TV set, furniture, and books from 1975 are still in the house, offering a glimpse into the life of the man who once called this lake house home.
The renovation aims to preserve the historical character and legacy of Hoffa's lake house. The Hagens are repairing the stone bar-b-q on the large concrete patio next to the house, and the large concrete patio with a stone barbecue in need of complete repair will be carefully taken apart and rebuilt.
The exact future use of the property is still undecided, but it is possible that it may be converted into a museum or Airbnb. Hoffa's son has expressed confidence in the Hagens' careful stewardship of the property.
Intriguingly, Eric Shawn, the host of "Riddle: The Search for James R. Hoffa" on FOX Nation, based on his extensive reporting into Hoffa's disappearance, will be airing an exclusive series on July 31st, 2025.
As the renovation progresses, the Hagens will continue to share their journey on the "Hoffa House Renovations" Facebook page, allowing the public to follow the transformation of this historic property.
