The remake features a stylish makeover, allowing you to explore each era in a HD-2D visual style that blends 3D environments and modern effects with pixel art. This transformative approach maintains the game's original charm while providing a fresh, updated look.
The game's battle system is grid-based and shared among all characters, but each character uses it differently based on their objectives. For instance, in the Wild West story, you play as Sundown Kid, helping a frontier town defend itself against outlaws. In contrast, the Present Day story follows Masaru Takahara, who is on a quest to master new skills and become the world's greatest warrior.
Each story in LIVE A LIVE features rearranged versions of its soundtrack, created by the original composer, Yoko Shimomura. Shimomura, known for her work on FINAL FANTASY XV and the KINGDOM HEARTS series, collaborated with Takashi Tokita, the mind behind CHRONO TRIGGER and FINAL FANTASY IV.
When you start the game, you have the option to choose between seven different characters, each living in a different time period with their own distinct gameplay and story. This includes the Twilight of Edo Japan's Oboromaru, a humble shinobi who keeps to the shadows and carries out a secret mission, and The Distant Future's Cube, a robot brought to life on a cargo spaceship, as he tries to discover the truth of a tragedy aboard the ship.
The Near Future story follows Akira, a rebel with the extraordinary gift of reading people's minds, as he works with his friends to unravel a dark conspiracy. The Imperial China story involves Earthen Heart Shifu, who is in search of a worthy successor and entrusts his kung fu legacy to young disciples.
Progress made in the demo can be carried over to the full version of the game if you choose to buy it. However, be aware that the game contains Blood, Crude Humor, Fantasy Violence, Language, and Suggestive Themes.
