MTA Announces Public Hearings on Proposed Fare Increases
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has scheduled three public hearings this week to discuss proposed fare increases. The hearings will take place at the MTA's office at 130 Livingston Street, 1st Floor, in Brooklyn, New York.
The hearings are scheduled for Tuesday, August 19, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 20, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. These hearings are hybrid, allowing participation in person, via Zoom, or by watching livestreams.
Those interested in speaking at the hearings must register online or call the Public Hearing Hotline at 646-252-6777. Registration closes at the start time of each meeting, and speakers will have two minutes to provide comments. Accommodations are available for people with disabilities.
Comments can also be submitted online, by mail, or by phone. Written and video comments can be submitted online, or mailed to the MTA Government and Community Relations.
In addition to the public hearings, the MTA will also be holding public comment sessions with MTA staff at Customer Service Centers in subway and commuter rail stations from Aug. 25-Sept. 12.
Meanwhile, the MTA is making changes to its services for the U.S. Open. The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) will have direct service via the Port Washington branch to Flushing Meadows. All Port Washington trains for the rest of the day and all weekend trains already make a stop at Mets-Willets Point. Four morning peak trains between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. will have a Mets-Willets Point stop added.
The 7 line will operate local and express service with five extra daily trains returning from Mets-Willets Point station nightly after matches. Buses and paratransit are travel options for the U.S. Open, with the Q90 bus stopping at Seaver Way and Roosevelt Ave.
Full schedules for buses and trains are available in the MTA and Train Time apps. Customers traveling from other locations can transfer at Woodside. The trip to Flushing Meadows from Penn Station and Grand Central takes 19 minutes and costs $5 during off-peak hours.
For more information, visit the MTA website or contact the Public Hearing Hotline at 646-252-6777. Shanifah Rieara, MTA Chief Customer Officer, will be leading the public hearings.
While the MTA is engaging the public through scheduled hearings to discuss proposed fare increases on general news, the organization is also making changes to its services for the U.S. Open on sports front. For instance, the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) will have direct service via the Port Washington branch to Flushing Meadows.
