Discourse in Scottish Soccer Club - May 2025

Rev up for an exciting boating season! With warmer months here, there's plenty to look forward to at your club or organization. Whether you're aiming to boost visibility, discover funding sources, or strengthen your volunteer workforce, we've got you covered.

Wondering how to captivate more members on the map? Sign up for ALISS (A Local Information System for Scotland)! This digital wonderland connects people and professionals to local health, wellness, and sailing resources. Enhance your club's outreach by listing its details on this national platform.

Ready to engage more people on the water with an open sailing day? Check out the RYA Discover Sailing shop! This dynamic campaign assists clubs by providing resources, communicator support, and an opportunity to join national promotions. Need extra support for your event? Reach out to your RYA Scotland Regional Development Officer.

Exciting news for your upcoming events! RYA Scotland is eager to provide support for select clubs/centers running first-time opportunity events such as open days, tasters, or transition days. The assistance offered will be tailored to your needs, resources, and follow-up discussions. This could involve financial aid, sending a coach or instructor, or other valuable assistance. Reach out to your RDO or register your interest now!

The Development Team is busy delivering the final RYA Scotland Connect Forum Call until the autumn. On May 27, the RYA Scotland Coaching and Training Team will lead a discussion on workforce development. Robin Nicol, RYA Scotland Coach Education Development Manager, promises this will be a life-changing conversation! Join the conversation alongside the RDOs, their guests, and peers from throughout Scotland.

Get ready for Volunteers' Week from June 2-8! This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the superstars making things happen across Scotland. Join the discussion online by using the #volunteersweek hashtag on social media. Know someone exceptional? RYA Scotland Impact Award nominations are always open. Most recently, we applauded Feri Szincsak of Clyde Windsurfing Club for his tireless contributions to the Scottish windsurfing community.

Mark your calendars for the 2025 RYA Connected Scotland conference on November 1 and 2 at the Carnegie Conference Centre in Dunfermline. Stay tuned for updates on content, presenters, and format. Prepare for two action-packed days filled with learning, growth, and networking with fellow Scots.

The 2025 RYA Scotland Coaching Subsidy is now accepting applications. This opportunity supports instructor training in small boat schemes for individuals or organizations running courses. While anyone can apply, the focus is on young coaches and instructors (under 26), women, girls, and individuals from rural backgrounds, typically leading to a 50% subsidy (of course, cost). Applications will be processed by the RYA Scotland Coaching Collective. If you have questions, please feel free to contact [email protected].

In pursuit of securing future funding, consider these options:

  • The RYA Foundation Youth Fund
  • The Aldi Scottish Sport Fund, available for Glasgow and the West until June 22
  • Poundland Foundation Kits 4 Kids, offering up to £750 for kit
  • National Lottery Awards for All Scotland (Do remember to inform your RYA Scotland Regional Development Officer of any application for this funding as they may be consulted during the review process).
  • National Lottery Heritage Fund, possibly for traditional boat building or activity
  • National Lottery Young Start, boosting the confidence of young people aged 8 to 24
  • Tesco Stronger Starts
  • Bruce Wake Charitable Trust, funding leisure activities for people with physical disabilities
  • The Weir Charitable Trust
  • Social Investment Scotland provides loans for charities and community groups
  • Athlete Travel Award Scheme assists in covering travel costs for talented athletes.

All the best from The Development Team - Laura, Brian, Rhys, Liza, Nathalie & Naomi. 23/5/2025
