In the world of sports, excitement is building in Kentucky as several exciting developments are on the horizon.

Football

Last week, the University of Kentucky's football team faced a tough challenge against the LA Chargers, with former CovCath tight end Michael Mayer in the lineup. Unfortunately, the Raiders came out on top, winning 20-9. Despite the loss, Mayer made an impact, catching two passes for nine yards.

Meanwhile, on the home front, UK's starting tight end duo of Josh Kattus and Willie Rodriguez continue to impress. Both locals, hailing from Greater Cincinnati, had standout performances in UK's 48-23 win over Eastern Michigan. Kattus, a senior from Cincinnati Moeller, had three catches for 61 yards and a touchdown, while Rodriguez, a sophomore from Covington Catholic and Taylor Mill, had two receptions for 28 yards and his first college touchdown.

Baseball

On the diamond, former Cincinnati Reds' player/coach Billy Hatcher, Todd Asalon, former NKU baseball coach, and Todd Reams' Riverfront Baseball are joining forces for a fall baseball clinic. The clinic, focused on teaching the fundamentals of fielding, throwing, and base-running, will take place at Covington's Bill Cappel Sports Complex on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 9:30-12 noon. Spots are limited, with a cost of $65 that includes a t-shirt and a gift voucher. For more information, contact Dan Weber at [email protected].

Basketball

In basketball news, five-star combo guard Taylen Kinney is expected to announce his college choice on the CBS Sports College Basketball YouTube Channel on Sept. 28. The latest intel from Rivals.com suggests that Kinney is likely to choose Kansas over UK and his native Kentucky, with a 60% confidence level. However, Louisville will miss out on Kinney's decision, as he was a finalist for the program at one point.

The Kattus family, with roots in Cincinnati, has recently moved to Newport. Keep an eye on Dan Weber on X (@dweber3440) for updates about the baseball clinic and other sports-related news in the area.
