Discontent simmers over the proposed industrial zone, Klapfenhardt
In the historically significant and wildlife-rich area of Klapfenhardt, a proposed industrial development has sparked controversy. The current mayor of the city, Peter Boch, announced his plans for future industrial areas on December 22.
However, the citizens of Klapfenhardt, particularly the Citizens' Initiative North with 700 members, are strongly resisting this proposed development. They criticise Mayor Boch's approach as 'tasteless and incomprehensible.'
The intended industrial area is the Klapfenhardt forest northwest of the existing industrial area on the Wilferdinger Heights. This area is not only a drinking water and landscape protection area but also home to several protected animal species.
The Citizens' Initiative North's opposition stems from concerns about the environmental impact of the development. Klapfenhardt is currently undergoing tests for species protection and environmental compatibility. These tests, commissioned this year, are aimed at ensuring the proposed development will not harm the local wildlife.
The controversy began when Mayor Boch announced his plans. Spokesman Manfred Pflüger, however, was informed about the proposed industrial area via a 'car phone call' the day before. Manfred Pflüger contradicts Boch's statement about having had a factual conversation with him beforehand.
Pflüger finds it problematic that Klapfenhardt is low-lying and lacks wastewater supply from Pforzheim. The city of Kämpfelbach, which borders Klapfenhardt, has had long-standing discussions about the toilet facilities at the 'Am Kämpfelbach' motorway service area and discussions with the Kämpfelbachtal wastewater association.
Mayor Boch, however, seems open to dialogue. He stated that he is 'a bit disappointed by the sharp tone of the Citizens' Initiative North,' but emphasised the city's willingness to engage in discussions about the proposed industrial area in Klapfenhardt with the Citizens' Initiative North and environmental associations.
Environmentalists are preparing a campaign against the proposed industrial area in Klapfenhardt. The Ochsenwäldle area was originally considered for the industrial area but is no longer being pursued. As the situation develops, it remains to be seen whether a legal path, considered to have good chances, will be the means by which the opposition to the proposed industrial area in Klapfenhardt is resolved.
