- Disco blaze in North Macedonia claims life of professional footballer

Dive into the heart-wrenching tale of a Macedonian football pro, Andrej Lazarov, who perished in a devastating nightclub inferno. His club,FC Shkupi, confirmed the sorrowful news on Instagram, with his last acts showcasing his courage and selflessness.

"He sacrificed his life while trying to save others, displaying an extraordinary amount of courage and humanity until the very end," the club's post read. Lazarov, a 25-year-old star, will be remembered as a symbol of moral fortitude and generosity.

A Hometown Hero's Fateful Night

The city of Kocani, Lazarov's beloved hometown, played host to the ill-fated nightclub, "Pulse." Joined by the club just before the season, the hip-hop concert that ensued in the establishment would unfortunately mark his final performance in his hometown.

The fire ignited during Saturday night's show, reportedly caused by prohibited pyrotechnics setting the ceiling ablaze. Over a thousand attendees were in the club when the fire erupted, prompting a mad dash for the exits.

Fire Investigation: Corruption Whispers

The ongoing probe into the Nightclub fire has raised eyebrows regarding corruption and bribery within the North Macedonian government. Pance Toskowski of AFP reported that 35 out of 59 fatalities have been identified, with 155 wounded currently being treated in hospitals, 22 of whom remain in critical condition.

Neighboring countries have offered aid in treating the injured victims. Toskowski himself has left open the possibility that bribery may have played a sinister role in the nightclub's operation, stating that the company responsible did not possess a legal operating license.

"This operating license, along with many other things in Macedonia, is often linked to bribery and corruption," he commented during a press conference.

Initial arrests have already been made, with several suspects implicated in the disaster.
