In the Bothfeld district of Hannover, Germany, World War II grenades were discovered at the former Freiherr von Fritsch barracks site. The authorities have taken necessary measures to ensure public safety, and here is the essential information for residents and travellers.

On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, the Bomb Disposal Service of the Hanover Police successfully defused the initial explosives found at the site. However, further operations are planned, depending on the discovery of additional ordnance.

Approximately 20 people living in the safety area around the site have been asked to evacuate by 6:00 PM on September 9, 2025. Evacuated residents are urged to inform relatives and friends about their absence and notify neighbours about the evacuation measures. It is also advisable to take essential items such as medication, baby or special food, and appropriate clothing with them.

For those requiring assistance, an ambulance can be requested by calling 19222. A care facility will be open from 6:00 PM on September 9, 2025, at the Municipal Nursery (Zur Stadtgärtnerei 10, 30657 Hannover) for evacuated individuals without other accommodation.

Temporary restrictions on the exit from the A2 motorway at Hannover Buchholz towards the city center will be in effect. The exit 45 (Hannover-Buchholz) of the A2 motorway in the direction of Berlin must be temporarily closed for the detonation. Regular traffic reports on the radio will also provide updates on the closures.
