Disappointing results for top contenders - Disappointment for prominent Emmy nominees
In the recently announced Emmy nominations for 2025, several notable performances were conspicuously absent from the list of nominees. Among these snubs were a few rising stars and seasoned actors who delivered critically acclaimed performances in popular series.
One of the most surprising omissions was Patrick Schwarzenegger, the son of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, who was snubbed for a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his performance in the third season of HBO's "The White Lotus." Despite the series receiving an impressive 23 nominations overall, Schwarzenegger was one of the few cast members excluded from the Best Supporting Actor in a Drama category.
Another notable absence was Jason Isaacs and Sam Rockwell, co-stars in the hit series "Only Murders in the Building," which failed to secure any nominations for the 2025 Emmy awards. Interestingly, only Martin Short was able to secure his fourth consecutive nomination for the Hulu series.
The finale of the Hulu series "The Handmaid's Tale," titled "The Testimony," received only one nomination for Guest Actress Cherry Jones, despite 76 previous nominations and 15 Emmys for the first five seasons. Surprisingly, "The Handmaid's Tale" did not receive any nominations in the Best Drama Series category for its finale.
In the case of "Squid Game," the highly successful Netflix series, the second season did not receive any nominations, despite winning six Emmys for its first season. Lee Jung-jae, the series' star, was also not recognized for his performance in the second season.
The Apple TV+ series "Severance" and "The Studio" emerged as the big winners of the 2025 Emmy nominations, with Zach Cherry, Tramell Tillman, and John Turturro receiving nominations for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama series, alongside Walton Goggins, James Marsden, and others.
Unfortunately, other star-studded series such as "The Four Seasons," starring Tina Fey and Steve Carell, did not receive any Emmy nominations. Colman Domingo was the only actor from "The Four Seasons" to receive a Supporting Actor nomination.
The Emmys also saw several other notable snubs, including Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, and Meryl Streep, who were all absent from the nominations for "Only Murders in the Building." Streep, who was nominated last year, went home empty-handed in 2025.
Despite these snubs, the 2025 Emmy nominations were a testament to the diversity and quality of television content currently available, with several promising series and performances receiving well-deserved recognition.
- In the "Squid Game" saga, neither the series' second season nor its lead actor, Lee Jung-jae, received any Emmy nominations, despite the first season's successful six wins.
- "Movies-and-TV" platform Hulu's series "Severance" and "The Studio" dominated the 2025 Emmy nominations, with numerous nominations for their supporting cast members such as Zach Cherry, Tramell Tillman, and John Turturro.
