Los Angeles is crumbling in MLS, and even Messi suffers a record defeat

The disaster season of ex-BVB star Marco Reus and his Los Angeles Galaxy continues, and defending champion Messi also experienced a crushing loss in the MLS: On the 12th matchday of Major League Soccer, LA experienced its lowest point, losing 0:7 (0:3) to the New York Red Bulls, the worst defeat in the team's history. The team around the German ex-international is still searching for its first win of the season. Their last victory was the 2:1 final win against New York from December 2024.
Former Bundesliga stars Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (formerly FC Bayern) and Emil Forsberg (RB Leipzig) each scored twice for New York, while fellow international Reus was substituted in the 64th minute with the score at 0:4. With three draws and nine losses, Galaxy is the poor performer in the league.
"Today was a terrible game. We were garbage from start to finish," LA Galaxy coach Greg Vanney said succinctly after the game. "There were other games where we played well, and small things made the difference. Today was different. We need to figure out within our group how we can improve to reach our goals. One thing we can be sure of after tonight is that we need to stick together as a group," Vanney added.
Miami Loses Again, Messi's Worst Defeat
Inter Miami's struggles continue with yet another loss to Minnesota United
In a season unlike any other in the MLS, Marco Reus pleads the alarm. Even Inter Miami, led by Lionel Messi, is currently struggling. The Florida team lost 1:4 to Minnesota United. It was Messi's worst defeat in the MLS.
Messi scored his fifth goal of the season to bring his team back into contention in the second half. Miami is fourth in the Eastern Conference after suffering their second league defeat. Miami last tasted victory against the New York Red Bulls, having previously exited the CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinals against the Vancouver Whitecaps.
"If the players are lacking, it is entirely my responsibility. Completely mine," said Inter coach Javier Mascherano, who previously played with Messi at FC Barcelona: "If the coach doesn't convince them or doesn't convey what he wants, the responsibility lies entirely with the coach."
