Disabled Sports Association's Second Chairman Rebuked over Luke Mockridge's Homicide
In a bold move, disability activist Frank Schurgast has taken a stand against comedian Luke Mockridge's offensive jokes about people with disabilities. On his Facebook page, Schurgast expressed his concern over Mockridge's remarks, made in the podcast "Nizar & Shayan - The Germans," episode 448, on August 15.
Schurgast, who is a member of the marginalized group of people with disabilities and holds prominent positions in various disability-related organisations, finds the public outcry insufficient. He is the co-chairman of Inclusion North e.V., second chairman of the Bremen Disabled Sports Association e.V., and inclusion officer for Bremen-Nord of the SPD Bremen-Nord.
The jokes, which Schurgast considers deeply immoral, included a competition where people without legs and arms are thrown into a pool, and the one who drowns last wins. Mockridge also made offensive jokes about disabled sports.
In response, Schurgast has filed a criminal complaint against Mockridge and his company, Nizar & Shayan GbR, for continuing to distribute the controversial episode. He has accused Mockridge of incitement to hatred and its dissemination, as well as hate speech and its dissemination.
Schurgast emphasized that ableism has diverse and profound effects on the personal lives of those affected, including direct disadvantages, reduced self-esteem, and social isolation. He stated that the insults against people with disabilities by Mockridge have lasting psychological and physical effects.
