Dirty sock belonging to the late Michael Jackson fetches astonishing price of $8,822 at auction
Michael Jackson's Iconic Sock from 1997 Nice Concert Auctioned for Over €7,600
In an exciting turn of events, a piece of music history has been sold at auction. Michael Jackson's sock, worn during his concert in Nice, France on June 27, 1997, was the star of the show on August 4th, 2025.
The sparkling white, rhinestone-encrusted sock, reportedly worn during his performance of "Billie Jean" on the HIStory World Tour, was discovered backstage after the concert by a technician. The auction took place in Nîmes, France.
Aurore Elie, auction commissioner at the Hôtel des ventes de Nîmes auction house, confirmed that the sock was indeed worn by the "King of Pop." Initially estimated to sell for €3,000-4,000, the sock nearly doubled that expectation, selling for between €6,200 and €7,688 (approximately $8,822), depending on the currency conversion and report.
The sock, which had yellowed rhinestones and some stains after nearly three decades, remained an iconic collectible for Michael Jackson fans. It was framed alongside the original technician’s backstage pass, adding to its provenance.
Despite being previously offered for sale at auction on July 21, the sock did not find a buyer. However, this time around, it caused quite a shock among dozens of fans, with the final sale price reported to be around €6,200 by MJ Vibe, Brussels Times, and Marca, while other sources report approximately €7,688 or roughly £6,640, equating to about $8,822 in US dollars.
The auction took place at a Benim auction house, and the event was covered by Al Bawaba. This sale serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of Michael Jackson and the continued interest in his memorabilia among fans worldwide.
