Director of The Purge unveils chilling trailer for new horror film, starring SNL performer, as they navigate a eerie old age home where terror lurks
In a chilling new preview, acclaimed director James DeMonaco unveils his latest horror offering, aptly titled "The Home". The trailer provides an initial glimpse into the film's eerie setting, a seemingly haunted care home with a dark and corrupt underbelly.
The story commences as a novice janitor, played by Saturday Night Live alum Pete Davidson, embarks on his new job at a retirement home. However, his first day is marked by a forbidden instruction: to avoid the fourth floor, housing patients needing "special care". Yet, it appears Davidson's character disobeys this rule, and he soon encounters a series of unsettling supernatural incidents, from an elderly resident watching him sleep to a blood-covered man lurking outside a window.
The trailer portrays an underlying plot, as a mysterious man alludes to the residents as "good people" who "deserve comfort in their twilight years" and mentions the janitor having "interesting eyes". At the close of the trailer, the same figure is seen looming over the janitor, who is pinned wide-eyed while a needle hovers over his eye. Is it possible that the elderly residents are stealing people's bodies, as in Jordan Peele's "Get Out"?
Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions have announced that "The Home" is set for theatrical release on July 25, 2025. The film follows the exploits of a rebellious twentysomething, Max, who is sentenced to community service at the quiet retirement home. As Max's curiosity grows and he delves deeper, he unearths a harrowing secret that places both the residents' lives and his own in grave danger.
Pete Davidson has ventured into the horror genre before, starring in A24's 2022 slasher film "Bodies Bodies Bodies". Yet, it seems his stay at the potentially demonic old folks' residence in "The Home" promises a far more harrowing experience.
Joining Davidson in "The Home" are John Glover and Bruce Altman. The screenplay was co-written by DeMonaco and Adam Cantor.
