In the erotic drama "Fifty Shades of Grey" sequels, "Fifty Shades Darker" (2017) and "Fifty Shades Freed" (2018), Foley's last feature films starred Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson. From 2013 to 2015, he also directed 12 episodes of the TV series "House of Cards", featuring the lead role of Kevin Spacey.

Among his earlier successes was the psychological thriller "At Close Range," premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in 1986, with Christopher Walken and Sean Penn in the lead roles as father and son in this gangster melodrama. He also directed several music videos for pop star Madonna.

In "Glengarry Glen Ross," based on a play by David Mamet, Foley masterfully directed stars like Jack Lemmon, Al Pacino, Ed Harris, and Alan Arkin, portraying the cutthroat competition in a Chicago real estate office. In 2007, Foley directed the thriller "Perfect Stranger" with Bruce Willis and Halle Berry.

James Foley was not only a talented director but also a journalist who gained international recognition for reporting from conflict zones. His dedication to telling stories from dangerous environments and his courage in the face of danger were highlighted by his kidnapping and beheading in Syria by ISIS militants. Even after his tragic death, his legacy continues to inspire journalists and advocates for freedom of the press and safety of journalists worldwide.
