'Director Kenny Ortega Recalls Collaborating with Cameron Boyce: A True Exceptional Individual'

In remembrance of Cameron Boyce, six years after his untimely death at the age of 20, Kenny Ortega, director of the popular Disney Channel musical fantasy series "Descendants," pays tribute to the late actor as the muse and "forever boy" of the franchise.

Ortega's tribute, shared during the 10th anniversary of "Descendants," celebrates Boyce's inspiring spirit and his central role in the original cast. Boyce, who played Carlos de Vil, son of Cruella de Vil, was described as everyone's favourite by Ortega.

Tragically, Boyce passed away in 2019 due to a seizure caused by epilepsy at his home in Los Angeles. In response, Boyce's family launched the Cameron Boyce Foundation, which aims to end Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) by funding epilepsy research, education, and awareness to help find a cure.

Ortega also noted that the original "Descendants" cast members remain involved with the foundation, carrying forward Boyce's legacy through their work.

Cameron Boyce was not just a talented actor but also a generous and aspirational young man, according to Ortega. He was known for helping others, especially dancers who were having a rough time. Boyce loved workshopping with Ortega, especially the party and playful aspect of creation.

Ortega also revealed that Boyce was involved in building wells for impoverished communities. When he entered a room, it was said that the light got brighter, reflecting his radiant personality.

Adam Sandler, who was set to work with Boyce on Hubie Halloween, also expressed his admiration for the late actor. Sandler described Boyce as one of the sweetest people he's ever met, always in a good mood and having great energy. Boyce felt like a family member during the filming of Grown Ups.

In a poignant gesture, Sandler included a brief tribute to Boyce in Happy Gilmore 2, featuring Boyce's Disney comedy series, Jessie. Despite their collaboration being cut short, Boyce's spirit continues to live on through his work and the hearts of those who knew him.

The Cameron Boyce Foundation accepts funding and supports foundations that empower young people and promote positive choices, reflecting Boyce's own commitment to making a difference in the world.
