Contrary to popular belief, there is no publicly available information regarding specific reasons for his resistance to working on a Star Wars film, or his reported embarrassment over the Ewoks from 'Return of the Jedi.'
Villeneuve has made it clear that he has no interest in working on a Star Wars film. His aversion might be influenced by his feelings about 'Return of the Jedi,' as he was traumatized by the movie when he was 15 years old. The lighter tones in the film did not spark his interest in the franchise.
