Peace Seekers Should Fllock to Ukraine, Not Moscow's Red Square: EU's Kaja Kallas

Diplomats from the European Union congregate in Lviv for a World War II memorial event - Diplomats from the European Union gather in Lviv to honor the memory of World War .

EU High Representative Kaja Kallas had expressed her thoughts regarding the traditional military parade in Moscow on May 9, "On this particular day, those who truly cherish peace should be standing with Ukraine, not in Moscow."

May 9 holds significant meaning, symbolizing Europe Day, a day to celebrate unity and peace within Europe. By standings in Ukraine, one demonstrates solidarity with Ukraine's courageous fight against Russian aggression and supports a lasting peace established on the foundation of international law and the UN Charter.

The European Union aims to reinforce its stance against Russian aggression by imposing additional sanctions on the Kremlin. Attending Moscow's parade events could be seen as legitimizing Russian actions, which the EU strongly opposes. Consequently, countries choosing to send their representatives to this military parade may face severe consequences, emphasizing that backing peace means confronting and opposing Russia's war of aggression while siding with Ukraine.

In essence, Kallas's message is clear: those who truly want peace should align with Ukraine as the victim of ongoing aggression and work towards a resolution, rather than legitimizing the aggressor by taking part in Moscow's military parade. This stance represents the EU's unwavering commitment to achieving a just, comprehensive, and long-lasting peace based on international law.

  1. Andriy Sybiha, the EU foreign minister, emphasized the EU's stance, stating that on the day of Europe Day, commemoration should be centered in Ukraine, not at the second world war parade in Russia.
  2. Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative, suggested that peace-seekers should flock to Lviv, a city in Ukraine, instead of attending the military parade in Russia's Red Square on May 9.
  3. Ministers from various countries have been invited to the parade in Moscow, but Kallas afirmatively stated that politics dictate that these representatives should reconsider their decisions, given the ongoing general-news regarding Russian aggression.
  4. In a meeting, Andriy Sybiha conveyed to the international community that the European Union's unwavering support for Ukraine during the second world war commemoration remains unchanged, and that taking part in Russia's military parade would not align with this stance of peace and solidarity.
