Diplomatic Meeting between Trump, Armenia, and Azerbaijan Labeled as the "Peace Summit"

A historic peace summit is scheduled to take place at the White House on Friday, with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan set to sign a comprehensive peace agreement. The announcement was made by U.S. President Donald Trump on his Truth Social platform.

The long-standing rival republics of Armenia and Azerbaijan will come together for this significant event, marking a potential end to decades of conflict in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. The peace summit will involve an official ceremony with the signing of the agreement, and participants will include Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev and Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

The exact details of the peace agreement were not specified in the announcement. However, it is known that the agreement aims to establish lasting peace in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict region and the wider area between the two countries.

Since the attack in 2023, more than 100,000 ethnic Armenians had to flee the conflict region to Armenia. Armenia lost control of the region to Azerbaijan in the attack.

In addition to the peace agreement, the United States intends to sign bilateral agreements with both Armenia and Azerbaijan, focusing on the economy. A major component of the peace agreement is the establishment of a strategic transit corridor called the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP). This corridor will link Azerbaijan to its Nakhchivan exclave through Armenia, and will include infrastructure development for rail, oil, gas, fiber optics, and possible electric transmission lines. The United States will hold exclusive development rights on the corridor land for 99 years.

The TRIPP corridor enhances connectivity between Turkey and Azerbaijan, bypassing Iran and Russia. This reflects U.S. geopolitical aims to decrease Russian, Chinese, and Iranian influence in the South Caucasus. However, Iran has expressed opposition and threatened to block the TRIPP corridor, citing security concerns.

The peace agreement aligns with international law principles and aims to foster good-neighborly relations and stability. It marks a significant milestone in ending the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict's aftermath. Despite the overall positive developments, regional geopolitical tensions, particularly involving Iran’s objections to the corridor, remain a sensitive issue.

Armenia has been in a severe political crisis since the attack, and the peace agreement comes as a ray of hope for both nations. The signing of the peace agreement at the peace summit is a testament to the efforts of President Trump, who claimed that many leaders have tried to end the conflict without success, but he has been successful "thanks to 'TRUMP'".

The historic peace summit at the White House is expected to conclude a centuries-long war-and-conflicts in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, with the signing of a comprehensive peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The agreement also includes bilateral politics, focusing on the economy, as the United States intends to sign agreements with both countries, with a major component being the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) – a strategic transit corridor that will improve connectivity between Turkey and Azerbaijan.
