Worn-out, Busted, and Cryin' for a Makeover:

Stepping into the worn-down multi-purpose hall of Don Bosco Regensburg is like taking a trip back in time. The floor is a patchwork of bubbles, the wall padding's burst, and basketball hoops' nets are shredded—it's clear this joint's seen better days and needs some serious TLC.

This grim reality was echoed by Dr. Roland Batz, Vicar General of the Diocese of Regensburg, who paid a visit to the Don Bosco Center. The diocese is lending a hand, chipping in 16% of the eligible costs for the renovation.

The crew from Don Bosco Regensburg expressed heartfelt gratitude for the diocese's support, but sadly, they can't secure a grant from the Bavarian Youth Ring for the revamp. Only a full youth center renovation would qualify for this funding, and as it stands, the gym alone doesn't meet the criteria.

"The hall's no shake-and-bake, young guns!" lamented Thomas Zintl, the facility's director. "A complete youth center revamp would cost a pretty penny without the Youth Ring grant."

In addition to the diocese's assistance, donations from companies, foundations, and folks like you are contributing to the gym's revival. Interested donors can even sponsor a square meter of the new gym with a 500-euro donation.

"A big ol' 'thank you' to everyone assisting us with the renovation," shared Teresa Bauer, the director of the Open Children and Youth Work of Don Bosco Regensburg. "Our multi-purpose hall is a sanctuary for kiddos and young adults from western Regensburg."

When the youth center's open, visitors can enjoy sports activities such as juggling, table tennis, volleyball, or basketball. And during off-hours, the rooms can be used for sports or hanging out with pals.

Especially during frosty winters, when the outdoors become a frozen wasteland, the hall's a much-needed escape, Thomas Zintl added. The renovation's set to kick off in Spring 2026, but they're always open to more gym sponsors.

Press Release: Don Bosco Regensburg's Multi-Purpose Hall Renovation

Insider's Tip:

To secure a Bavarian Youth Ring grant, it's a smart idea to thoroughly research their criteria and ensure the renovation project aligns with their priorities. Additionally, looking into local government support, private donations, and grants from other organizations may increase your chances of funding. Happy renovating!

The diocese's support, along with donations from companies, foundations, and individuals, will not only help renovate the basketball court but also other sports facilities within Don Bosco Regensburg. Due to the current renovation plan not fulfilling the Bavarian Youth Ring's criteria for a full youth center renovation, they will need to seek alternative funding sources, such as researching other grant options and exploring local government support, to cover the costs of completing the entire multi-purpose hall makeover.
