Dinamo's ex-hockey star clinches tournament victory
The 2025/26 KHL season is gearing up for an exciting start, and Belarusian powerhouse Dinamo Minsk is set to take part. Although the detailed schedule for Dinamo Minsk's upcoming season has not yet been released, some key matchups have been confirmed.
The first match of the season for Dinamo Minsk will see them face off against "Spartak" in Moscow on September 9, marking a challenging start to their campaign. The third game of the season will pit them against the Kazakh team "Barys."
Dinamo Minsk ended the prior season in a strong position, securing 2nd place as of summer 2025. Their first home game in the 2025/26 season will be against the team from Astana, scheduled for September 22. Notably, the team will start the season with three away games.
The 2025/26 KHL season is set to consist of 68 games per team across 182 match days, with playoffs extending through May 23, 2026.
Meanwhile, former NHL star Joe Pavelski, who retired from the NHL in 2024, made a brief appearance in the KHL during the 2012/13 NHL lockout. Pavelski played 17 games for Dinamo Minsk, scoring 15 points (7 goals + 8 assists) during his stint.
Pavelski, who spent 1332 regular season games in the NHL for the San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars, scoring 1068 points (476 goals + 592 assists), had an impressive run in the playoffs, contributing 143 points (74 goals + 69 assists) in 201 games. However, despite his achievements, Pavelski never won the Stanley Cup.
In a surprising turn of events, Pavelski won the American Century Championship golf tournament held at the Edgewood Tahoe resort in Nevada in 2025. Country singer Jake Owen, former MLS player Taylor Twellman, and NBA player Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors were also in the top 5 of the tournament.
During his time with Dinamo Minsk, Pavelski accumulated 10 minutes in penalties and had a plus-minus rating of "-5."
