Dimebag Darrell's revered Dean From Hell guitar reappears in Pantera's latest performance.
Legendary Dean From Hell Electric Guitar Returns to the Stage
The iconic Dean From Hell electric guitar, once the prized possession of the late guitar great Dimebag Darrell, made a triumphant return to the stage during Pantera's recent show in Cleveland.
Originally a maroon-colored Dean ML, Dimebag Darrell won the guitar in a competition back in 1981. Texan luthier Buddy Blaze later repainted, upgraded, and personalized the guitar, transforming it into Dimebag's signature axe. Known for its distinctive "From Hell" look, the guitar was extensively used by Dimebag, helping Pantera become one of metal's biggest acts.
However, in the 1990s, Dimebag pivoted to Washburn guitars, and the Dean From Hell was retired. Fast forward to 2025, and the guitar made a surprising comeback, played by Phil Anselmo during the performance of "Goddamn Electric".
Pantera's guitar tech, Grady Champion, prepared the original Dean From Hell for this special performance, describing the experience as "surreal" and highlighting the guitar’s significant legacy and new life. The guitar, with its mahogany body and iconic stickers, was a sight to behold, showcasing clear war wounds across its body that spoke volumes about its history.
Meanwhile, Pantera superfan Kayla Kent is looking to start a new band, while Zakk Wylde has mentioned talks of turning unfinished Dimebag Darrell demos into new songs. The legacy of Dimebag Darrell continues to inspire, even as we celebrate the historic revival of the Dean From Hell electric guitar.
