Dillian Whyte's coach openly confirms key points prior to the fight against Moses Itauma
In the world of professional boxing, the highly-anticipated match between Moses Itauma and Dillian Whyte is set to take place on August 16 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This fight promises to be a thrilling encounter, with Itauma, a rising star in the heavyweight division, taking on Whyte, a seasoned veteran with a wealth of championship-level experience.
Moses Itauma, ranked No.1 by the WBO, has torn through his first 12 opponents with a degree of precocious ferocity. His career-best win so far came over Demsey McKean, but it was his victory over Dillian Whyte that truly showcased his potential. In their August 2025 bout, Itauma knocked out Whyte in the first round, just 1 minute and 59 seconds into the fight, marking Itauma's eighth consecutive first-round knockout and the most significant win of his career to date.
Whyte, a formidable opponent with 31 wins and 4 losses, represented Itauma's toughest challenge so far. Despite Whyte's experience, Itauma dominated from the outset, employing a sharp double jab and precise power punches to dismantle Whyte quickly, signaling his emergence as a top contender in the heavyweight division.
Before facing Whyte, Itauma had a perfect professional record of 12-0 with rapid knockouts against lesser-known opponents. However, this victory demonstrated his ability to defeat more experienced, high-level fighters. Since then, Itauma is viewed as a rising star with potential to contend for world heavyweight titles, confidently stating his readiness to face anyone and eyeing future title shots.
On the other side of the ring, Dillian Whyte has wins over Alexander Povetkin, Joseph Parker, and Derek Chisora. His career has stagnated significantly over the last few years, but a win over Itauma would put him right back up there with the upper echelons of the division.
Trainer Buddy McGirt, who started working with Whyte in 2022, has expressed doubts about his ability to show Itauma something new. McGirt, who has worked with several world champions including Sergey Kovalev, Arturo Gatti, and Hasim Rahman, rarely watches tape in the lead-up to fight night. Despite this, he has won three fights with Whyte over Jermaine Franklin, Christian Hammer, and Ebenezer Tetteh.
The fight between Itauma and Whyte can be watched with a DAZN subscription. If Oleksandr Usyk chooses to vacate the WBO belt, Itauma would be next in line to fight Joseph Parker for the red and gold strap. With the belief in Itauma's ability so strong that he is compared to a teenage Mike Tyson, this fight is sure to be a spectacle not to be missed.
