Ex-CEO Wildberger Joins CDU as Federal Digital Minister
CDU welcomes Minister Wildberger as new party member - Digital Minister Wildberger aligns with the CDU Party
In a surprising move, Karsten Wildberger, the former CEO of Ceconomy Group, has joined the CDU party to take on the role of Federal Digital Minister. The announcement was made by the North Rhine-Westphalian state association of the German Press Agency. Before this, Wildberger was an unaffiliated individual.
Wildberger, a 55-year-old physics Ph.D. holder from Gießen, expressed his enthusiasm about joining the CDU, saying, "North Rhine-Westphalia has long been my home, and the CDU has long been my political home. I am pleased to take this step and, as Minister in the Federal Government under Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz, to also be part of the team of CDU North Rhine-Westphalia under Hendrik Wüst."
As the new Digital Minister, Wildberger aims to strengthen the faith of citizens in government and state institutions. He stated, "Christian democracy stands for a strong social market economy and a political change that we urgently need and are actively pursuing in the areas of digitalization and modernization."
Paul Ziemiak, CDU NRW General Secretary, welcomed Wildberger, stating, "There could be no better political home for a new digital minister than in the Union on the Rhine and Ruhr."
Karsten Wildberger's transition from a successful business executive to a political figure comes as part of Chancellor Friedrich Merz's new government push to establish a dedicated Ministry for Digitalization. This ministry aims to accelerate digitalization efforts across Germany, making it a "digitally sovereign country."
