Digital Dialog Marks End of Successful 5-Year ESC Pilot Project
The 15th Digital Dialog marked the end of the 'Contracting: build the future!' copilot project, a five-year initiative supporting Energy Saving Contracting (ESC) on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWE). The project concluded with 26 active model projects involving over 550 buildings, aiming to make them energy-efficient through ESC.
Representatives from state energy agencies attended the final regular meeting of the project last week. The BMWE's contract, and thus the ESC copilot project, ended on 31.08.2025. The project's conclusion coincides with the expected signing of the energy savings guarantee contract in the city of Wels within this year.
The project's success is evident in the progress made across various regions. In the Unstrut-Hainich district, renovation measures in 12 ESC properties, including schools, started on time during the Thuringian summer holidays. Meanwhile, in Rhineland-Palatinate, the Landesbetrieb Liegenschafts- und Baubetreuung (LBB) project at the University of Koblenz is proceeding well in the guarantee phase. Four municipalities, including the city of Roth and the Unstrut-Hainich district, closed energy savings guarantee contracts and initiated detailed analyses in the first half of 2025.
A new website short film showcases current progress from Koblenz, explaining the interaction between clients and energy savings contractors.
The conclusion of the 'Contracting: build the future!' copilot project leaves a significant legacy. With 26 active model projects and over 550 buildings made energy-efficient, the project has demonstrated the potential of Energy Saving Contracting (ESC) in driving sustainability and energy savings. The expected contract signing in Wels further solidifies the project's impact, setting the stage for continued progress in energy efficiency.
