The Montreal Canadiens are gearing up for their 2024-2025 season, and the training camp is underway. The camp, which begins on Wednesday in Brossard, will see 60 players in attendance, including three prospects from the 2024 NHL draft: Ivan Demidov, Tyler Thorpe, and Owen Protz.

All other players have contracts with the Canadiens, the Rocket, or are draft picks of the team. However, due to injuries, COVID-19, assignments to other leagues, or team duties, 29 Montreal Canadiens players will not be participating in the training scrimmage games. The specific names and reasons for their absence vary based on their current team status and health conditions.

The Canadiens will play six exhibition games during the camp, with the first one taking place against the Pittsburgh Penguins on September 22. The Canadiens will also face the Senators at the Remparts' home on September 30. It's worth noting that the game against the Senators is scheduled outside of the training camp period.

In addition to the games, the Canadiens will hold practices at the Videotron Centre in Quebec City from October 1 to 3. The games will occur at 10:30 AM each day at the team's training center.

The team has divided the 60 players into three groups. Among the players, there are 34 forwards, 19 defensemen, and 7 goaltenders. It's also worth mentioning that no 2025 draft picks are present at the training camp.

One player, Kevin Mandolese, has a tryout contract. Last year, the Canadiens invited 58 healthy players and three injured players to their training camp. Interestingly, the number of players in this year's camp is higher, with 60 players in total.

The training camp will consist of physical tests, medical exams, and on-ice sessions. The first on-ice sessions will take place on Thursday, with simulated games starting the same day and continuing for three days in a row.

This year's training camp follows a trend of growing player numbers. In the year before, there were 71 healthy players at the Canadiens' training camp. The number of players in each position (forwards, defensemen, goaltenders) remains the same as previously stated.

As the Canadiens prepare for the upcoming season, the training camp offers a chance for the newcomers to make an impression and for the team to assess their readiness for the challenges ahead. Fans can look forward to exciting games and the development of the team's future stars.
