In the small town of Ratzeburg, Schleswig-Holstein, a heart-wrenching court case unfolds. Martje (41) and Niklas R. (40), devoted parents, are seeking justice for their six-month-old son, Lönne. Tragically, Lönne passed away following a febrile seizure, and the parents firmly believe the responsibility lies with the emergency doctor who attended the scene.

The harrowing incident took place on the evening of January 18, 2021. Lönne experienced a febrile seizure, prompting his parents to call for emergency assistance. Paramedics administered a suppository, momentarily alleviating Lönne's symptoms. However, when the accused emergency doctor, Dr. Hans-Joachim H. (60), arrived, he administered an excessive dose of lidocaine as an anesthetic.

Following the lidocaine injection, Lönne's convulsions returned, and he was given midazolam as a sedative. Unfortunately, this led to a cardiac arrest. Despite heroic attempts to revive Lönne, the resuscitation efforts failed. An expert analysing the case later concluded that "serious treatment errors" occurred during the resuscitation process.

Dr. Hans-Joachim H. faces charges of negligent homicide because the prosecution claims that, had proper dosing and resuscitation been carried out, Lönne might have survived. The parents firmly believe that, even post-lidocaine overdose, with proper resuscitation and instant hospital admission, Lönne could have been saved.

During Monday's trial proceedings, Niklas R. testified as a witness, accusing the emergency doctor of poisoning Lönne with anesthetics. According to the father, the doctors sought to declare Lönne dead at home, covering up their mistakes. Niklas R. further suggested that the high dose of anesthetics was deliberately administered by the doctor, causing Lönne's demise.

Lönne's mother, Martje R., also provided emotional testimony, recalling the horrifying ordeal she and her husband endured. Lönne's siblings lovingly held him as they awaited his recovery, but horror struck when they received the devastating news that Lönne had not survived.

In the face of these accusations, Dr. Hans-Joachim H. claims that the administration of medication was justifiable and medically appropriate.

The trial continues, awaiting further developments and testimony. The parents, armed with their unwavering belief in their son's right to justice, press on.
