Diaspora portfolio now under Nyoro's jurisdiction following committee reorganization
New Faces in Kenyan National Assembly Committees
The National Assembly in Kenya has undergone significant changes in committee memberships, as announced on July 29, 2025. These changes, approved by the House and ordered by Speaker Moses Wetang'ula, aim to refresh the composition of several committees ahead of a long parliamentary recess starting mid-August.
One of the most notable changes involves Ndindi Nyoro, who has been reassigned from the Budget and Appropriations Committee to the Diaspora Affairs and Migrant Workers Committee. His position on the Budget and Appropriations Committee has been filled by Edwin Mugo Gichuki.
Other notable appointments include John Okano Bwire, who has replaced Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku on the Departmental Committee on Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives. Nimrod Mbithuka Mbai has taken over Eric Muchangi Karemba's seat on the Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee.
Eric Muchangi Karemba and Patrick Munene Ntwiga have been added to the Public Petitions Committee, filling vacant positions. Charity Kathambi Chepkwony has replaced Stanley Muthama Muiruri on the Committee on Implementation.
The National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity Committee has seen the arrival of Anne Muratha and Peter Ochieng' Orero, who have filled the positions previously held by the late Charles Ong'ondo Were and an unspecified member.
In the Committee on Powers and Privileges, Jane Njeri Maina and Shakeel Shabbir have succeeded John Bwire and James Oyoo.
Silvanus Osoro moved a motion for these changes during Tuesday's sitting. Leah Sopiato Sankaire has replaced Edwin Mugo Gichuki in the Departmental Committee on Tourism and Wildlife.
These changes follow a resolution initially made in March 2025 and reflect ongoing adjustments to committee compositions in the National Assembly.
The new members in the Diaspora Affairs and Migrant Workers Committee include Ndindi Nyoro, whose previous role was in the Budget and Appropriations Committee, replaced by Edwin Mugo Gichuki. Health and general news issues may now fall under Edwin Mugo Gichuki's purview, as he navigates policy-and-legislation regarding migrant workers. Moreover, the Departmental Committee on Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives has a new member, John Okano Bwire, replacing Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku. With these changes, politics related to trade and economics may see a shift in direction.
