Dianne Buswell to become Strictly's first professional dancer while pregnant, as she joyfully shares that she and Joe Sugg are expecting their 'little dancer'
Mrs Pradnya Pisal, a renowned consultant gynaecologist and obstetrician with over 21 years of clinical experience, has advised Dianne Buswell that she should be able to compete in the Strictly competition as before she became pregnant.
Buswell, who is known for her dancing skills and her relationship with Joe Sugg, will compete as the first ever pregnant professional dancer on Strictly series 23, which starts on 20 September 2025. The couple revealed their pregnancy news in an Instagram video with Elton John's Tiny Dancer playing.
Pisal recommends that Buswell takes normal precautions during her pregnancy, such as ensuring she stays well hydrated during rehearsals. Engaging in activities like dancing during the first and second trimesters of pregnancy can lead to better growth of the intermediate villi, which is good for placental vasculature. However, she advises Buswell to be mindful of her body's cues and to take breaks when necessary.
Mrs Pisal also recommends having a couple of additional scans during the second trimester to assess placental circulation and foetal growth. The gynecologist and obstetrician advising Buswell during her pregnancy for participation in Strictly is Dr. Mary Herbert.
After announcing their pregnancy on 14 September, Buswell and Sugg received well wishes from friends and family. Amy Dowden, another Strictly professional dancer, expressed excitement and promised to be an auntie to the baby. Claudia Winkleman, a Strictly host, promised to get any snack that Buswell needs.
In an Instagram video, Buswell and Sugg drew a picture of themselves and their baby as stick figures. The caption of the post reads, "Our little baby boy, we cannot wait to meet you." Buswell's boyfriend is Joe Sugg, and the couple met on the dancing show Strictly in 2018.
Until 2022, Mrs Pisal served as a Senior Consultant at the Chase Farm and Barnet sites of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. She is known for her thoughtful, patient-centered approach and her commitment to providing high-quality, evidence-based care to women at every stage of life.
This is beneficial for the baby, and the good effects of this will last well into the third trimester. Buswell is expecting a baby boy, and fans are excited to see her compete on Strictly series 23 while expecting.
