Dialogue resumes in Cairo as Israel and Hamas engage in peace negotiations

After a setback on Monday, truce discussions have resumed in Cairo between Israeli and Hamas delegates. Egypt, Qatar, and the US are mediating the talks, following Israel's claims of Hamas's lack of flexibility in previous discussions.

Hamas Demands

Hamas has emphasized the necessity of all northern Gazans returning home and the release of Israeli hostages being contingent on the IDF completely exiting Gaza and the cessation of hostilities.

Egyptian, French, and Jordanian Plea

Over the weekend, Cairo hosted the Foreign Ministers of Jordan and France, who expressed concerns over a potential ground operation in Rafah and urged the provision of additional aid for Gaza. Israel insists that a ground attack on the southern city is necessary to eradicate Hamas, despite warnings of a humanitarian disaster.

Aid Convoy

A three-ship convoy carrying 400 tons of food left a port in Cyprus on Saturday. The aid, organized by charity World Central Kitchen, can prepare over a million meals with items such as rice, pasta, flour, legumes, canned vegetables, and proteins.

World Food Programme Situation

Despite ongoing aid, the UN and partners have warned that a famine could strike devastated northern Gaza as early as this month. They stress that air and sea deliveries are insufficient and that Israel must allow greater land-based aid access. The International Court of Justice has advised Israel to open more border crossings and address the humanitarian crisis.
