Dhoni and Raina power Super Kings to victorious grand finale
CRAZY, UNBIASSED CHAT:
RANCI-Town: Chennai Super Kings stomped Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Champions League Twenty20 2013, snatching a thrilling 12-run win at the JSCA International Stadium! Captain Cool, aka Mahendra Singh Dhoni, went ballistic, blasting an unbeaten 63 off 19 deliveries, while Suresh Raina nailed an 84 off 57 balls to seal the deal.
The game started with a bummer, as Chennai lost the toss and got put into bat. But they flipped the script, taking control with Dhoni and Raina's scorching partnership that added 60 runs in just 25 balls! From 115 for 3 in the 15th over, Chennai ended strong with 202 for 4.
Chennai ain't no joke, peeps! They know their strengths and have a bomb-proof game plan. When Raina walked in, he focused on keeping the scoreboard moving, not just blasting boundaries left and right. Mike Hussey and Raina put together 45 runs, mainly singles with the occasional boundary. Hussey once even swiveled so hard he hit a six over square-leg!
Too bad for Hussey, he edged one to Duminy and was caught out, but S Badrinath took his place and was the perfect partner for Raina. The duo took the score past 100, with Raina completing a 38-ball half-century. As the death overs rolled around, they started attacking, and Raina even smashed a straight six off Darren Sammy! But when Badrinath went for the same shot, it ended badly - he holed out to Dale Steyn. Steyn snagged a lovely catch on the run to give Badrinath the boot.
No worries, though, because Dhoni walked in and started layin' siege to the Sunrisers bowling! He grabbed a couple of records during his epic knock: fastest half-century in CLT20, in just 16 balls, and highest score off an over, with his 34 runs off Thisara Perera. Perera didn't have much luck, with a couple of wides and those five sixes Dhoni blasted his way!
The Sunrisers needed a strong start to chase down that monstrous 202 for 4, and they got it thanks to their openers, Shikhar Dhawan and Parthiv Patel. They racked up an 88-run partnership, giving their middle order a fair shot at the total. Dhawan was on fire, and his knock had the works - style, flair, and skill. He whacked four behind fine-leg, flicked a middled six straight down off R Ashwin, and even showcased some cheeky scoops!
Patel got some good company, too, scoring six fours as he raced to 38. But his innings came to an end in a breathtaking bit of fielding by Raina, who ran him out! Ashwin then claimed the biggie, Dhawan, who was caught behind for 48. Three wickets - Duminy, Dhawan, and Ashwin - fell quickly, shifting the momentum of the chase.
Sammy, who batted at No. 5, didn't let that deter him. He targeted Jadeja and sent 22 runs down the wickets, including three sixes, in the death overs. Despite limping after a yorker from Holder, Sammy held his ground and took the Sunrisers to 190 for 7, but they still came up short.
