Freshened Up for the Nations League: Allianz Arena Preps Post-Champions League Turf

Ready for action! New playing surface installed in Munich's DFB stadium. - DFB squad readies for fresh pitches in Munich.

It's game time for the DFB team! Ahead of their semi-final match against Portugal in the Nations League, coach Julian Nagelsmann and his crew have finalized their preparations on the pristine training ground in Herzogenaurach - but in Munich, a bit of magic is needed to restore the Allianz Arena turf, post-Champs League finals rowdiness.

These celebrating fans of Paris Saint-Germain, after their recent victory, inflicted minor damage to the pitch. Part of the advanced hybrid turf will be swapped out, promising smoother action for team DFB.

"A standard procedure for us," says Jürgen Muth, CEO of Allianz Arena Munich Stadium GmbH, to the Munich newspaper group "Münchner Merkur and tz". "There was never any real risk to the event."

Newcomer Woltemade Could Make a Splash

As the final training session concludes on the Adidas field of Franconia, Nagelsmann's squad is all set for their semifinal tussle with the world number seven Portugal. With several players sidelined due to injuries, the team will see at least six lineup changes compared to the 3:3 draw in the quarter-final return match against Italy in March.

Definitely, Marc-André ter Stegen will stand between the posts after a long spell on the sidelines, as Nagelsmann had announced earlier. In attack, the debut of Stuttgart's Nick Woltemade might be on the cards, as his recent club form makes him an appealing choice, especially given the team's high-profile absences.

"You bet he has a shot. Otherwise, he wouldn't be here," Nagelsmann said at the onset of training about the chances of Woltemade starting.

Captain Joshua Kimmich is ready to play his 100th international match.
