Preparing for the 2024 European Championship draw, the German national team might find themselves in a tough group due to underwhelming performances against Turkey and Austria. With a third chance of facing either country in the group stage, the DFB squad needs to evaluate its current form.

As of now, the only positive aspect for Germany is the avoidance of major European soccer powers in the initial draw. Portugal, France, Spain, Belgium, and England are firmly placed in the first pot, ensuring they won't be drawn with the German team in Group A.

The teams are classified into four draw pots:

  • Pot 1: Germany, Portugal, France, Spain, Belgium, England
  • Pot 2: Hungary, Turkey, Romania, Denmark, Albania, Austria
  • Pot 3: Netherlands, Scotland, Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Czech Republic
  • Pot 4: Italy, Serbia, Switzerland, play-off winners (yet to be determined)

If the German team performs poorly, they could find themselves in a challenging group, such as one with Turkey, Netherlands, and Italy. Alternatively, they may be lucky enough to face Albania, Slovenia, and a play-off winner, offering a more forgiving path to the knockout stages.

Norway's qualification disappointments may create an opportunity for the DFB team. Despite the superstar presence of Erling Haaland and Martin Ödegaard, Norway missed the finals, making them a potential opponent in the competition. Consequently, the DFB might lay plans to counter the threat posed by Haaland if they are drawn against Norway.

Remember, the teams for the UEFA Champions League knockout phase play-offs are divided into seeded and unseeded sections based on their final league phase standings, rather than "draw pots" in the traditional sense.

So, keep an eye on the group stage draw and see how the pieces fall for the German national team.
