Step back 125 years, and we find the birth of the German Football Association (DFB) on January 28, 1900. To celebrate this grand milestone, the DFB, alongside Adidas, will unveil a special jersey.
According to the DFB's official announcement, this anniversary jersey takes inspiration from the retro jersey of 1974, a nod to the year Germany's men's national team clinched the home World Cup. The jersey's color scheme and silhouette are reminiscent of the DFB's rich history[1].
A Jersey Steeped in History, Minus a Timeless Tokен
Surprisingly, the jersey flaunts a unique absence—the DFB's iconic eagle symbol. Instead, the chest of the jersey showcases the Trefoil logo of Adidas and a commemorative crest to mark the 125th anniversary of the DFB, inspired by the special plaque at the association's founding site in Leipzig[1]. The lack of the eagle emblem on the chest is quite understandable, given that the DFB existed in 1900 before the Federal Republic and the prominence of the eagle symbol in later decades[2].
The anniversary jersey will make its first appearance on March 20 of this year, as the German men's national team takes to the field in Milan for the UEFA Nations League quarter-final first leg against Italy, and the German women's national team will premiere the jersey in April[1].
Interestingly enough, this year's softwear isn't exactly a steal, with the jersey priced at 100 euros, sans personalization with a name and number[1]. It'll be up for grabs from March 17 onwards, via the Adidas homepage[1].
