FC Bayern Munich Women's Team: Giulia Gwinn and Lena Oberdorf Updates
Giulia Gwinn, the captain of FC Bayern Munich's women's football team, will miss the Supercup clash against VfL Wolfsburg on August 30th due to an injury. According to Bayern's director Bianca Rech, Gwinn is currently in rehab and progressing well.
The injury, sustained on July 5, 2025, has kept Gwinn sidelined since the Euro 2025 tournament in early July. Despite her absence, Gwinn was recognised for her performances, being named Germany's Footballer of the Year alongside Ann-Katrin Berger.
Meanwhile, another FC Bayern player, Lena Oberdorf, is recovering well from a torn ACL. The injury occurred during Germany's Euro 2022 opener against Poland on July 4th. Oberdorf has recently returned to action in test matches for FC Bayern.
New FC Bayern coach José Barcala has stated that Oberdorf will play an important role for the team, but they are taking her recovery step by step.
As the 2025-2026 season approaches, fans are eagerly awaiting updates on Gwinn's return to competitive play. While she was present with the team during the team presentation on August 11, 2025, and recognised for her achievements, no definitive return date has been announced.
FC Bayern's season starts on September 6, 2025, but it is unclear whether Gwinn will participate immediately. Monitoring official Bayern Munich communications and matchday lineups closer to September 2025 will provide the most accurate update on her availability.
In the meantime, the team will face Real Madrid on Thursday at 4:00 PM, with Oberdorf expected to play an important role in their recovery from injury.
