"Developers of Battlefield 6 vow to deliver a 'genuine' and 'authentic' experience, superior to the humorous cosmetics in Call of Duty, a dedication that fills me with gratitude"
Battlefield 6, the latest instalment in the popular series, is set to return to its mass-scale, combined arms-driven shooter roots after the negatively received Battlefield 2042. The game promises a fresh start, with a new story campaign, new and classic modes, impressive destruction that can reshape map gameplay, and a reworked Portal similar to Halo Forge.
Pre-orders for Battlefield 6 are available now across all its platforms - Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PS5. The Standard Edition costs $70, with EA committing to no $80 games for the moment. Early access to the game will be offered as Twitch Drops or to anyone who participated in early Battlefield Labs testing.
The game's developers have confirmed that Battlefield 6 is a military shooter in modern times. To maintain this authenticity, they have promised a "grounded" visual style for its skins, distancing themselves from the goofy and gaudy cosmetics of Call of Duty.
Call of Duty skins have been criticised for their departure from military aesthetics, with neon pink assault rifles, celebrity collaborations, and bizarre crossovers with cartoons. Battlefield 6, on the other hand, aims to keep things "real" and "grounded." This approach is confirmed by Battlefield 6’s design director, Shashank Uchil, who explicitly stated the game will steer clear of celebrity and pop-culture crossovers.
The Phantom Edition of Battlefield 6 includes black and red skins with modern military gear, maintaining a "grounded" focus. The art direction for its unlocks will be rooted in Battlefield's "gritty realism," according to Alan Pimm, UX director of Battlefield 6.
Battlefield 6 is scheduled to launch on October 10. An open beta will be held this month on August 9-10 and August 14-17, and early access on August 7-8 for Twitch Drops or early Battlefield Labs testers.
