In Bavaria, Deutsche Bahn's latest shake-up brings significant timetable adjustments. As revealed by the Bavarian Railway Company (BEG) on Wednesday in Munich, updates include hourly regional express connections between Bayreuth and Hof, and Bamberg and Coburg. Trains from Hof and Prague will now have separate connections to Regensburg and Munich, aiming to boost reliability.

Munich's S-Bahn lines to Herrsching, Tutzing, and Wolfratshausen will now run every 20 minutes all year round, previously an exclusive summer treatment. Long-distance services are set for an upgrade too, with Deutsche Bahn targeting up to 14 Sprinter journeys between Munich and Berlin per direction, ensuring almost hourly daytime service.

A direct connection from Nuremberg to Vienna via Regensburg, Plattling, and Passau is planned once the railroad line between Nuremberg and Bamberg construction is completed. Regrettably, these enhancements won't be available until December 17 due to delays.

Bavaria's Transport Minister, Christian Bernreiter (CSU), acknowledged the continued importance of rail services in the region, given challenging financing situations due to the Deutschlandticket, rising energy prices, and escalating personnel costs.

Subtle Enhancements

To ensure smooth local transportation, DB is investing over 13 million euros in new infrastructure in Unterfranken, including obsolete bridge replacements and noise barrier installations. Additionally, Electronic Stellwerke (ESTW) are being installed between Munich and Mühldorf, upgrading outdated manual technology. These refurbishments necessitate temporary track closures and replacement services.

Further updates include plans for a direct Munich-Paris train, linking the two cities via ICE trains from DB and TGV trains from SNCF. The train service is projected to commence by the end of 2026. Moreover, the renowned U3 and U6 lines in Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) undergo a comprehensive renovation and modernization project, ensuring alternative bus services to keep transportation reliable during renovations.

Bavaria's annual local transport service expenses reach around 1.7 billion euros.

Detailed Changes

While specific details on a new direct connection from Nuremberg to Vienna are unavailable, enhancements for Munich's S-Bahn lines, such as the Neuperlach Süd Station renovation, are ongoing. The station serves as a transportation hub for Ramersdorf-Perlach in Munich, offering interchange services between S-Bahn, U-Bahn, and local bus services.

The proposed Munich-Paris direct train is set to launch at the end of 2026, serving as an outcome of successful collaborations between Deutsche Bahn and SNCF. Passengers can now enjoy a seamless train journey between Munich's Gare de l’Est and Paris without connections, enabling them to explore Munich's attractions, such as Oktoberfest.
